Located just 20 minutes outside of Rochester in Penfield, NY, Freshwise Farms has been producing quality greens and vegetables year-round in our series of greenhouses since 2005.
We are proud to announce that we have recently transitioned our product line and infrastructure to reflect the new vision and mission of Foodlink, our parent organization! New initiatives that reflect this change include the establishment of an educational program and the switch to soil, a more sustainable growing medium.
We have created an educational program that truly supplements the fresh, local, healthy, food we provide to the community. By fostering an understanding and appreciation for agriculture, nutrition, and food systems awareness this educational program is intended to curb the obesity and diabetes epidemics that currently plague our youth. We are working with area schools to increase the amount of fresh, locally-grown food found in cafeterias to promote the creation of a healthy food system and economic development of local agriculture in Upstate New York.
In addition to the educational initiatives we are undertaking, we have transitioned our primary production model from hydroponics to an organic, soil-based growing system. This change has enabled us to increase our environmental and financial sustainability while replacing chemical fertilizers with compost produced right on site at Freshwise.
At Freshwise, we have maintained a small selection of hydroponic crops in order to add educational dimensions to our experiential learning initiatives. Check out what's fresh here to learn more!
